The Christie® Crimson Series 3DLP® laser projectors, displayed in an inspiring light and sound show on the façade of the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata, wow visitors with stunning visuals celebrating the life and work of the Indian nationalist and freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Over twenty minutes, eight Christie Crimson Series laser projectors cast their spectacular images onto the white marble façade of the iconic landmark of the Indian city. The projection has become a permanent installation, the fruit of the collaboration of two old Christie partners: Tricolor India Schauspiel and Modern Stage Services, two well-known companies in the field of systems integration, which have developed numerous large-scale projects and maximum quality throughout the country.

Opened on 23 January by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the grandiose spectacle created to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Bose, better known by his honorary title of “Netaji”, or “leader of respect” in Hindi, is considered a technological and artistic milestone for having been prepared in less than five days. With its brand-new visuals and powerful soundtrack, the mapping is a fitting tribute to Netaji and his extraordinary contribution to his people’s fight for freedom. The Indian government has also announced that the birth of the Netaji will be commemorated every 23 January as “Parakram Diwas”, which in Hindi means “day of valor”. The decision seeks to make citizens aware of the need to act with strength in the face of adversity and instill in them a patriotic spirit.

“We are honored to have participated in the creation and execution of this sound and light show, which recalls the indomitable spirit of Netaji and his generous dedication to the country, as the 125th anniversary of his birth is commemorated,” says Himanshu Sabharwal, Director Creative from Tricolor India Schauspiel. «The contents projected, and meticulously designed, reflect that spirit and that delivery. Despite the tight deadline, I am convinced that our baggage of years accumulating knowledge and experience in the conception and execution of large projects is what has allowed us to successfully deploy this show. “

For a permanent installation

Davinder Wadhwa, Managing Director of Modern Stage Services, adds: “For a permanent installation, we needed a projection system with high brightness, good performance and maximum reliability, as well as strong and durable, and that operated with little or no maintenance. We quickly realized that Christie’s Crimson Series laser projectors met those requirements and already had a track record of success in India. In our opinion, the Crimson Series was the most suitable for projecting visuals like those seen in this great outdoor show. “

The idea of turning to Crimson Series solutions was soon endorsed by the customer himself, deeply impressed by the better light efficiency and color control of Christie’s 3DLP® projection systems compared to any projection technology on the market. . Prior to the inauguration, the eight Crimson projectors were placed on scaffolding erected directly in front of the Victoria Memorial. In the long term, the plan contemplates housing all the projectors in enclosures, to protect them from inclement weather.

My deepest congratulations to the efficient teams at Himanshu and Davinder for having brought this important installation to fruition in less than five days, a very short period of time that has not diminished an iota of appeal to a show that is already a source of pride for an entire country”.
